Dubai:

Diego Maradona has retracted his threat of walking away from his job as coach of Al Wasl if the UAE side did not recruit new players.

Last month the Argentine football legend declared in the local media saying, "I recently received a promise from Al Wasl directors to strengthen the club with new quality players.

"This promise must be kept. If not I will leave and return to my country, Argentina."

But a club statement on Thursday confirmed Maradona would see out his contract which runs until the end of next season.

Al Wasl added that Maradona's outburst "had not been in the interests of the club".
