London:
Chelsea says Michael Ballack has left the club's tour of the United States and returned to England for treatment on a toe injury.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said in a statement Tuesday that Ballack "took a knock on the toe (Monday), but everybody else is OK and didn't have injuries in this period."
The 32-year-old German midfielder was injured while training in Seattle before the team left for California, where it plays Inter Milan in a friendly on Tuesday.
Chelsea begins its season on August 9 against Manchester United at Wembley in the Community Shield, which pits the FA Cup champion against the Premier League winner. Chelsea opens its Premier League program August 15 at home against Hull.
