At 86, Real Madrid legend Di Stefano to marry 36-year-old sweetheart

Age is no bar to fall in love. Just ask Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano. At 86, the former Argentina player is set to marry his sweetheart, 50 years junior to him.

According to metro.co.uk, the two-time Ballon d'Or winner (1957 and 59) will marry Costa Rican Gina Gonzalez in a ceremony scheduled to take place in less than a month.

Stefano was hailed as one of the best strikers of his time and says he still has a young heart. "I'm in love(and) I'm getting married to Gina. I am 86 but I have a young heart," he was quoted as saying adding that it was his sense of humour that impressed Gonzalez, who had earlier helped him prepare his book.

The fact that Stefano suffered a heart attack eight years ago and that he is wheelchair bound is hardly any deterrent for the couple. "I am interested in my life and nothing else. And not making a lot of trouble."

Such is the degree of his love that the goal-scoring machine from yesteryears says he is not concerned much about how his children would respond to his decision to marry.

"What do you think they would say? They might be against it. But that is not important to me. They are going to have a go at me but I will take it with sincerity. If any wants to ask me then let them do it and I will explain it to them."

Born in 1926, Stefano was best known for his stint with Real Madrid - helping the club win five successive European Cup finals. He resides in Spain and is the Honourary President of Real Madrid.
