Crashing to a defeat in the UEFA Euro 2020 opener vs Group A opponents Italy, Turkey will still be hoping to progress to the knockout stages. The loss to Italy was due to a rather one-sided display in the second-half of the match, which was held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Despite the loss, the Burak Yilmaz-led outfit showed flashes of brilliance and one such moment came when Kenan Karaman nutmegged Manuel Locatelli. It was a moment when Turkey unleashed their inner Brazil, reminiscent of the partnership between the likes of Ronaldinho, Kaka and Ronaldo. The tournament's official Instagram handle shared the highlight for fans, which was indeed a treat to watch and was captioned as, "Fancy footwork from Hakan Calhanoglu and Kenan Karaman".
Here is the video:
The video begins with Italy losing possession in their own half towards the right flank, and Calhanoglu receives the ball. Facing his own goal, the AC Milan star then produced his own form of samba magic, dribbling around club teammate Manuel Locatelli.
He then followed it up with an exquisite pirouette-kind of a pass to Karaman, who then nutmegged the ball through Locatelli, to Calhanoglu.
Coached by Senol Gunes, Turkey lost 0-3 to Italy, with Merih Demiral scoring an own goal in the 53rd-minute. Ciro Immobile (66') and Lorenzo Insigne (79') also added their names to the scoresheet for the 2012 Euro runners-up.
Turkey will be hoping for a turnaround in fortunes when they next face Wales on June 16, and Switzerland on June 20.
