Barcelona's Sergio Basquets is being probed for alleged racial abuse during his team's match against Real Madrid. UEFA took the decision to launch a disciplinary case after Real Madrid posted a video of the match in which Basquets can be seen, allegedly, calling Marcelo 'mono' or monkey in the first leg.
The said instance of racial remark was one of several instances of heated tempers in a match that Barcelona won eventually on a 3-1 aggregate. Both clubs had launched complaints with UEFA after the first match that ended in a 2-0 loss for Marcelo's side. Madrid was not happy with the behaviour of the opposition even though its own mid-fielder in Pepe became one of the three personnel's sent off, Madrid coach Jose Mourinho and Barcelona reserve goalkeeper Jose Pinto being the others.
Mourinho had even charged UEFA of alluding to favour Barcelona and even his assistant Aitor Karanka bemonished UEFA for not acting on it's complaint against Barca players.
The recent development will come as a repreive to a side that has been breathing fire for not having its complaints being acted upon. Basquets' case will be heard on Sunday with a decision expected the next day.
