New Delhi:
MS Dhoni-led India defeated New Zealand on Friday in their tri-series opener match by six wickets, which means Kiwis are out of the contention for the final berth.

The team responded well in the absence of key players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan and pulled off a clinical performance.
The real challenge, however, lies today when they face hosts and the third team of the tri-series, Sri Lanka. Lankans had won their match against Vettori's boys.
A win against Lankans will give India a psychological edge in the final on Monday. But for that, India batting will have to come good.
The Premadasa pitch has been quiet testing for the teams and batting did not looked easy on it. It's a slow track and with the likes of Muralitharan, Jayasuriya and Mendis in the Lankan wing, Indian batsmen will have plenty to tackle.
Indian bowling, however, looked strong on Friday. Ashish Nehra made an impressive comeback with a match-winning three-wicket haul. He got good support from RP Singh and Ishant Sharma. Yuvraj Singh lived up to the expectations of his skipper and performed the role of a part-time spinner to perfection with three wickets.
A win today will mean that India retain the newly gained World No. 1 tag. A loss will dethrone them from the numero uno spot within 24 hours.
