Justice TS Thakur has strong words for a defiant BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is in a tight corner after an angry Supreme Court on Thursday gave it just 24 hours to issue an undertaking that the Board will execute in full the reforms made by the Lodha Committee.
Chief Justice of India TS Thakur has been on this special Supreme Court bench that has been hearing the 2013 IPL betting and match-fixing case since 2014.
He has repeatedly admonished the BCCI bosses for their misdemeanours and the latest volley of words from Justice Thakur comes in the wake of the Board constantly refusing to execute the Lodha reforms aimed at a transparent BCCI.
Here are top five quotes from Thursday's proceedings at the Supreme Court:
"We don't want to waste our time reforming BCCI … people are waiting here in court" - Justice Thakur on BCCI not meeting deadlines on implementing Lodha reforms
"Give unconditional undertaking that you will abide by Lodha panel recommendations" - Justice Thakur
"You (BCCI) are in the forefront of defiance giving lead to the associations" - Justice Thakur to Board lawyer Kapil Sibal
"Don't disburse money to associations who are reluctant to be reformed … why are you discussing money in a hurry?" - Justice Thakur on BCCI hurriedly making huge grants to its state units
And on a lighter note,
"We are all cricketers here, Mr Sibal. I was captain of the Supreme Court judges team against the Bar." - Justice Thakur
