Melbourne:
Shaun Marsh was on Wednesday named as the replacement for injured opener Phil Jaques for the remaining two cricket Tests against India.
Jaques had to return home without stepping on field even once, due to a lower back injury.
Australia's National Selection Panel Chairman Andrew Hilditch said Marsh was a 'potential' player with bat in his hand.
"Shaun has been selected having opened the batting for Australia in the one-day international arena and shown great potential," Hilditch said.
"As a replacement batsman on the tour, should the opportunity arise, we are confident that Shaun could fill any role in the batting order.
"We have also taken the opportunity to enhance Shaun's international experience as we consider him to be one of the promising young batsmen in Australia capable of having a significant impact in Australian cricket in the future," Hilditch added.
The third Test of the series, which Australia trails 0-1, begins on October 29 in New Delhi.
