Mumbai's upcoming star batsman Sarfaraz Khan has decided to swap his domestic commitments and has opted for a switch to Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2015-16 domestic season. Sarfaraz's father, Naushad Khan had approached Rajiv Shukla, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association secretary, for the transfer. (Duleep Trophy Not Scrapped)
"I spoke with Rajiv Shukla about the desire to return to my roots and he welcomed Sarfaraz back with open hands," said Naushad, who hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.
"Obviously Shuklaji has clarified that Sarfaraz will have to perform in the selection trials first but he is no stranger to proving himself time and again." (Time for Harbhajan to Script a 'Doosra' Innings)
The decision for Sarfaraz's switch however, doesn't come as a surprise. Last season, the 17-year-old was hauled up for making an obscene gesture to the selectors during an Under-19 match. It resulted in severe repercussions and the right-hand batsman was dropped from the list of probables for the zonal T20 league.
Sarfaraz later, tendered an apology and was drafted back into the squad but his match fees were withheld for the 2014-15 season.
Sarfaraz, who dazzled with his performances in the 2015 Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore, has been marked as one for the future and has host of records in school cricket to his name.
The hard-hitting batsman was the third-highest run-getter for India in the Under-19 World Cup in February 2014 and made his T20 and one-day debut for Mumbai in 2013-14.
He was also handed a Ranji cap last season but was omitted from the side after scoring 95 runs from three games. In his debut IPL season Sarfaraz scored 111 runs in 13 matches at an average of 27.75.
