New Delhi:
Terrorists killed at least 101 people, wounded at least 287 and took Westerners hostage in attacks across Mumbai, where the tournament was to start next Wednesday. One of the luxury hotels in flames, the Taj Mahal, was where English side Middlesex planned to stay.
Ponting told ABC News that the attacks were of massive concern to the Australian players.
"They (CA) have said that any cricket travel has been cancelled at the moment," he said from Adelaide, where Australia is preparing for tomorrow's second Test against New Zealand.
"I think that's definitely the right decision right now.
"It's a horrible thing to have happened. Matty (Hayden) is supposed to be going there at the end of this game.
"We would hope that it can all be sorted out as soon as possible."
Ponting flagged the possibility of the tournament being moved to a nearby country.
"Everyone who's playing in the event or wants to see the event do well would like to see it go ahead," he said.
"So if that means moving it to a different country, then I guess I'd support that."
