Dwayne Romel Smith Profile

A tall and aggressive all-rounder, Dwayne Smith is known for his lusty hitting, dynamism in the field and useful medium pace bowling. Hailing from Barbados, Smith has made quite a few telling contributions for West Indies cricket and is always a daunting prospect for oppositions.

Smith made his Test debut in 2004 against South Africa at Cape Town when he was called on as a replacement for injured Marlon Samuels. He made an immediate impact as he scored a scorching century on debut to halt a run of defeats for the Windies and helped them secure a draw in a high scoring match. He bowled just two overs in his debut match and could not quite make an impression with ball in hand. His fielding however was spot on.

In spite of his ability to score runs quickly, Smith was unable to maintain this form that made him a regular in the team and was subsequently dropped in 2006 after the third Test against New Zealand. He was however, a regular fixture in the limited overs side and this format suited his attacking style of play. Even though he has made telling contributions, he was never quite able to convert his starts to big scores and as a result, his debut Test century was the only century he scored at international level.

He plays in English county cricket and represents Sussex while also appearing in the Indian T20 league, first for Mumbai in 2008, moving on to the now defunct, Hyderabad(Hyderabad) in 2009. In 2012, he was once again picked by the Mumbai franchise as a replacement for injured Mitchell Johnson before getting snapped up by Chennai in 2014.
