A batsman with a hunger for big scores, Wasim Jaffer is a soft-spoken right-hander who represents a classy and traditional style of cricket. A triple century in only his second first-class game saw Jaffer emerge as the great new hope of Mumbai cricket.
An opening batsman with the fashion and élan reminded many of the young Azharuddin. A lot was expected of him on his Test debut in February 2000. But Allan Donald and Shaun Pollock proved too hot to handle and his international career was put in a state of uncertainty.
The opener from Mumbai has been a prolific run-scorer for his state on the domestic circuit. After being dropped from the Indian team, Jaffer has made an excellent comeback into the international arena by piling runs as an opener. He has been a regular feature in the Indian team for the past couple of years.
