Dane Vilas made his first-class debut for Gauteng in October 2006 against Free State. He had a prolific first season with the bat and showed great promise for the future. The wicketkeeper batsman’s coming of age innings came when he was playing for the Lions against the Titans, in a SuperSport Series match in 2009. He scored 203 off 295 balls and batted for almost seven hours in that match.
‘Villi’ made his T20 debut for the Lions on 25th January 2009. He impressed all as he averaged almost 40 in nine innings, with a highest score of 55 not out. Looking at his prowess with the bat and superiority behind the stump, the Cape Cobras acquired his services for the 2011 season. Dane adds strength in depth to the Cobras side which boasts of the likes of Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher and Justin Kemp.
