London:

England cricketer Kevin Pietersen hopes to make a hasty return to the West Indies for the World Twenty20 after heading back to Britain for the birth of his baby son, his spokesman said.

Pietersen left the tournament and raced back to London to be with his wife Jessica Taylor - a former singer with British band Liberty X - for the birth of the couple's first child.

A spokesman said the baby, whose name has not yet been announced, was born without complication and the new addition to the family and his mother were doing well.

"This really is the most amazing experience of my life," said the 29-year-old cricketer.

He plans to stay with his wife, also 29, for a couple of days before returning to the West Indies to continue playing in the tournament.

Despite the absence of their star batsman, England still managed to knock New Zealand out of the World Twenty20 with a three-wicket Super Eights win in Saint Lucia on Monday.
