Modi bans Joshi from IPL auction

Jaipur:

Defying Lalit Modi, Rajasthan Cricket Association Secretary Subhash Joshi on Thursday convened an emergency General Body Meeting which he claimed was attended by 21 district associations.

Joshi, who also chaired a senior selection committee meeting to pick probables for Ranji one-day team on Wednesday, said his faction enjoyed majority in the RCA.

"18 secretaries and three presidents of district associations were there. Despite Modi's threat and claims that the meeting would be illegal under RCA constitution they came at such short notice proving we enjoy majority," said Joshi.

Modi, meanwhile, fired back sending a letter to Joshi asking the RCA secretary not to come to Goa for Indian Premier League workshop from February 5-8.

"As you have been divested of powers of RCA secretary you need not come to Goa for IPL workshop from Feb. 5-8," said the letter sent to Joshi by Modi with a copy marked to Cricket Board Secretary N Srinivasan.

The Joshi faction discussed how to operate the bank accounts of RCA which Modi had tried to freeze.

"The banks where we have RCA accounts told me that Modi has written a letter claiming that I had been divested of powers of RCA secretary. We need money to run day to day activities, to conduct Ranji one-day camp. The executive would decide who will operate the accounts. If required we would submit the certificate from Registrar of Societies regarding the change in constitution and its affects," Joshi said.

Asked about RCA counsel and Modi friend Ankur Chawla's threat that BCCI might disaffiliate RCA, Joshi said, "When Dalmiya won in Bengal, was CAB disaffiliated. Moreover under Sports Act of Rajasthan, the bodies in accord with it will represent Rajasthan at national level. We want everything is done under law. During his time Modi had broken all democratic norms. We want to establish democratic regime again in RCA."

In the senior selection committee meeting yesterday, all the panel members were present and Joshi himself chaired it.

One of the Modi loyalists and secretary of Kota District Cricket Association, who is also vice-president of RCA, Amin Pathan, was also present as a special invitee.

The selection committee comprising Manvendra Singh, Kuldeep Mathur, Ratan Singh, Vinod Mathur and Madhukar Sharma selected 30 probables for a camp.

The final team to take part in the Ranji one-day championship in Indore from February 15 will be selected on February 12.

Ranji coach Taposh Chatterji will be the chief coach while P Krishna Kumar will be the assistant coach.
