Right then, that is it for this game, as the West Indies Under-19 gets off the mark while the Scotland Under-19 remains winless. However, the action continues in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup as we have two games lined up on Thursday, the 25th of January. It will be India U19 versus Ireland U19 and Zimbabwe U19 versus Australia U19. The game will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT), but as you know, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Stephan Pascal, the skipper of West Indies Under-19, says they counted this match as a win, and he is happy with the rest. Adds that he is happy with the effort put in by the bowling unit. Says that he assured them that their batters were way more lethal than they were, and that they were the best. He ends up mentioning that the batting unit will click up soon in their upcoming matches.
Owen Gould the skipper of Scotland Under-19 says he is happy with the improvement from the previous match. He feels they were pretty good through the innings but fell short 30 or 40 runs. He added that every one from his teams enjoyed the campaign He ends up saying that they would like to improve more and bring some positive results on the next match.
Jewel Andrew is the player of the match for his knock of 64 runs. He says that it feels really nice to put in a good performance, and Nathan Edward supported him well. Adds that it was a team effort and ends by saying that they will carry on with the same momentum.
Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, Scotland Under-19 were off to a slow start and managed to form a partnership of 89 runs. Alec Price and Jamie Dunk made important contributions, with Dunk scoring a half-century. The team managed to set a target of over 200 runs. The West Indies Under-19 team performed well with the ball, putting pressure on the Scottish openers and picking up wickets at regular intervals. Isai Thorne was the pick of the bowlers, as he picked up a four-fer.
As for Scotland Under-19, they had a small total on the board, and defending that against the Windies batting up was always going to be difficult. Adi Hegde and Qasim Khan were very economical for them, but the run rate was never a problem for the Windies side. Ruaridh McIntyre, Qasim Khan, Logan Briggs, Ibrahim Faisal, and Adi Hegde picked up a wicket apiece, while Nikhil Koteeswaran and Uzair Ahmad were wicketless. They used a total of seven bowlers throughout their innings. Their bowlers bowled their skins out, but their efforts eventually fell short.
West Indies Under-19 get their first points on their board in this ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, 2024. At one point, it looked like Scotland would spring a surprise and pull a shocker. West Indies Under-19 started on a brisk note but kept losing wickets at timely intervals. They were 111/5 inside 17 overs. However, Jewel Andrew and Nathan Edward made sure that Scotland did not get a sniff again as they stitched an unbeaten stand of 95 runs to take their side over the line.
