That's it from the series opener! A game getting over inside three days should tell you how superbly Australia have prepared for the tour. One would argue that the Indians will bounce back hard but to be honest, the momentum lies firmly with the visitors. Let's see what happens in the second Test when these two meet in Bengaluru on 4th March, 2017, at 0930 local time (0400 GMT). Until then, goodbye and take care. Cheers!
Man of the Match, Steve O'Keefe admits that it's a good feeling. Says that the Indian spinners also bowled well. Mentions that it is because of hard work that they won. Informs that he will forever remember the Hill's end (the end from where he got his wickets) and credits Steven Smith for supporting him and the fielders who took the catches. Adds that even Jadeja bowled beautifully, but was unfortunate to not get enough wickets. Mentions that the Australians have been working hard to not get beaten on the inside edge. Says that he's enjoying in India and calls Pune 'Sundar' (Beautiful). Ends by saying that he's looking forward to Bengaluru.
Australian skipper, Steven Smith says they knew it was going to be really difficult to play here but is really proud of his boys for the way they performed here. Mentions that everybody had plans and executed them very well. Gives special credit to Steve O'Keefe for his outstanding performance in the match and doesn't forget to mention Nathan Lyon for doing well too. Mentions that his team has some excellent players of spin and is happy that the squad is well-rounded. When asked about key moments in the game, points out Mitchell Starc's knock in the first innings and just the way his bowlers bowled overall. On Steve O'Keefe, says that he was disappointed with how he himself did on the first day, but then slowly came back as he got his length right. Stresses that he will be crucial for the series. On his ton, states that it took a lot of grit and determination and hopes that he can do it more frequently for his side.
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says the run (19-match unbeaten streak) was really good and the support they are getting is incredible. Admits that Australia outplayed India and says that his team wasn't good enough. Calls it their worst batting performance in the last two years. Mentions that they didn't apply themselves very well. Doesn't blame the pitch and praises the visitors' bowlers. States that they expected this kind of dry deck in Pune. Credits the Australian bowlers for their amazing bowling performance. Rues the catches dropped and informs that to pull themselves back after a couple of poor sessions was very hard. Says it is a big learning curve and it's necessary to accept that they played poorly. Praises Umesh Yadav for his performance in the first innings, especially in the heat and hopes for more such performances from him in Bengaluru.
It required a miracle of an effort from the home side on such a dodgy wicket to save this Test and nothing as such happened. Their batsmen failed to apply themselves and were caught off guard as the Aussie spinners got the better of them yet again, making full use of the pitch. India's 19-match unbeaten streak at home ends which means Kohli and co will have a lot to ponder about going into the next match but first let's wait and see what the two captains have got to say. Stay tuned for the presentation...
Smith won a good toss on day 1 but then had his side in trouble towards the end of the day. However, Mitchell Starc stepped up and unleashed a quickfire fifty to provide a much-needed impetus to his side. Then they came out all guns blazing with the ball on day 2 and not only steamrolled the hosts for a scanty 105, but also gained a handsome lead of 155. They swelled it to a mammoth 440 runs on the back of a superb ton from their skipper. Agreed he got reprieves but take nothing away from him. The middle and lower middle order also provided a handful support to Smith to put the hosts further under the pump.
A sensational performance from Australia! They go 1-0 up in the series and boy, they have done that by beating the hosts by a huge, huge margin. Though it was an all-round effort from them, the two Steves - Steve Smith and Steve O'Keefe - have got the job done. The former applied himself on a track that had dreadful turn and bounce and went on to score a Test ton while the latter coped really well with the conditions and spun the web beautifully around the Indian batsmen as he picked up 12 wickets in the match. This performance was his best, better than even any of his First Class matches.

Nathan Lyon To Jayant Yadav OUT!
OUT! That's it. Australia win by 333 runs! Slower delivery through the air, Jayant goes forward to defend but it hits his front pad and the ball lobs in the air behind as Wade moves to his left and takes it. The visitors appeal and the umpire obliges. Unfortunate decision that because it wasn't out as the replays failed to show any inside edge. But the Australians don't mind and they are delighted!

Steve O'Keefe To Jayant Yadav
NOT OUT! Tosses this on middle and leg, Jayant charges down the track and flicks it through fine leg. And this time around he wants a single. The fine leg fielder throws it at the striker's end and Wade clips the bails off. Australia go up and the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays suggest that Umesh has made his ground.
A run out decision against Umesh Yadav is referred upstairs by the umpire.

OUT! Lyon dismisses Ishant and SOK will not be able to dismiss all the Indian batsmen in one match. Bowls it slower through the air, on middle, Ishant comes forward to defend but it hits his gloves onto his thigh pad and lobs in the air towards Warner at leg slip who cups it easily. Australia need just 1 wicket to take the lead in this 4-match series.
