Right then, that is it from this entertaining encounter. Delhi settles the score with Mumbai and remain as the league leaders. However, the action in the Women's T20 League 2024 continues on 6th March, Wednesday where winless Gujarat takes on high-flying Bangalore. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Jemimah Rodrigues is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her exceptional knock. She says that more than her batting she is happy that the team won. Adds that the wicket was a bit tricky but it suited her as the ball was keeping low. Tells that they have a good atmosphere in the team and she can express herself freely on the field and they back her as well. Mentions that she has learned from her mistakes in the last two games. Says that she worked on herself and it is finally paying off for her. Ends up by saying that it is important to get into the mind of the bowler and stay one step ahead.
Meg Lanning, the victorious skipper of Delhi says that it was a good game for them but there are some patches they could be working up to make themselves even more better. She continues praising Jemimah Rodrigues for her incredible performance but the top-order batters need to contribute more runs for the team. She also states that the bowlers also did their job, and she is happy with the performance. Ends up saying she felt really good to have that total and they were able to kill the game early by picking up early wickets.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Mumbai says that their fielding was not up to mark. They gave away too many runs on the field and that's where they lost the match. She continues that their top order didn't score much as well, but they still managed to get some runs on the board. She also states that they didn't know about the pitch, and that's why they elected to bowl first. The pitch was a bit tricky as well and didn't offer much to work with. She praises the way Amanjot Kaur played in the match and ends up saying if the top order contributed a little more, the story could have been different.
Presentation Time...
Jess Jonassen, the current leading wicket-taker of the season is up for a chat. She says that their batters made the bowler's jobs easy, as they had a cushion of runs to defend. She continued that the way she bowled in this game comes from experience, and she has played a lot of games and loves playing in India. She also states that they knew about the quality Mumbai has in their batting lineup, so they were pretty serious while defending the runs. Ends up saying Jemimah Rodrigues played an exceptional knock as well.
Earlier in the game, Delhi posted a massive total courtesy of a brilliant half-century from skipper Meg Lanning that paved the way for Jemimah Rodrigues who was on song and blasted an unbeaten 69 off just 33 balls. Except for Saika Ishaque and Amelia Kerr, every other bowler chipped in with one wicket each for Mumbai but things could have been different if they held onto their chances a bit better. While chasing, the top order failed except for Hayley Matthews, and they never really recovered from it. There were some positives but that was not enough for them to get the win here.
Delhi, on the other hand, were right on the money from the start. Marizanne Kapp once again got them the early breakthrough while Shikha Pandey followed it up with two key wickets in quick succession. Jess Jonassen came into the attack and got the big fish, Hayley Matthews who was given a life by Taniya Bhatia in the same over. Amelia Kerr was removed by Titas Sadhu who gave full control to the hosts. A little partnership brewed for the visitors, but Jess broke that getting her second wicket while Radha Yadav also chipped in with one just after that. It was Jess Jonassen again who wrapped things up with a wicket on the last ball to seal their first-ever win over Mumbai at home.
Mumbai got off to the worst possible start losing Yastika Bhatia in the first over. Things went from bad to worse when Natalie Sciver-Brunt and captain Harmanpreet Kaur departed in the next two overs putting them well behind in the game. Hayley Matthews counter-attacked from one end, but she too was dismissed inside the Powerplay. Amelia Kerr also failed to make much impact in this game they lost half their side before the halfway mark of the chase. Amanjot Kaur finally got her opportunity to bat this season and showed her potential with a stylish knock of 42 off just 27 balls and kept the game alive for a bit along with Pooja Vastrakar. However, after her dismissal, it was one-way traffic in this game. Sajeevan Sajana did play some lusty blows towards the end but the ask was too much for her and they ultimately fell short by 29 runs.
DELHI START THEIR HOME LEG WITH A CONVINCING WIN! In doing so, they also avenge their previous defeat at the hands of Mumbai and keep the top spot as well. Their batters were brilliant especially skipper Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues and their bowlers this time made sure that they do their job effectively. Delhi also becomes the first side to defend a total against Mumbai in the history of the Women's T20 League.
