Dubai:
India moved back up to second in the ODI Championship table following the 46-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final of the tri-nation series played at R Premadasa Stadium on Monday.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men had briefly enjoyed the top spot in the team rankings after beating New Zealand earlier in the series.
But slipped to the third within 24 hours of that win after being beaten by the home side on September 12.
The same day Australia beat England by seven wickets at Lord's to sneak ahead into second position.
But yesterday's victory put India back to within a single ratings point of South Africa and with just two points separating first from third in the table, everything is set up for a rankings showdown at the ICC Champions Trophy, which gets underway in South Africa on September 22.
Before the Champions Trophy, Australia could go top of the rankings if they manage a clean sweep against England.
