For those who love innovation in cricket, The Hundred is an exciting prospect. It is even shorter than T20s and hence even more power-packed. Major Indian corporate groups and IPL franchise owners have stakes in several teams for The Hundred's 2026 season. They include Mumbai Indians (in Oval Invincibles, now called MI London), the RPSG Group (Lucknow Super Giants) in Manchester Super Giants, the Sun Group (Sunrisers Hyderabad) in Northern Superchargers (now Sunrisers Northern), and the GMR Group in Southern Braves.
England pace legend James Anderson was part of Manchester Originals and played three matches last year. The 43-year-old took two wickets at an economy rate of 10.92. He did not put his name forward for the auction this year.
Speaking ahead of the start of the English domestic season on Tuesday (April 1), Anderson said: "It was a mixture of hating every minute of The Hundred last year - if I can say that. No, I wanted to experience it last year, and I think it's a great competition. But for me, especially being captain (of Lancashire) this year, it's really important to focus on being as fit as I can be for the four-day stuff."
He also commented on England's 4-1 Ashes loss against Australia.
"Obviously, Ashes series are huge and everyone gets judged," Anderson said. "We've seen the backlash of losing in Australia quite heavily. I thought they had a great chance of causing an upset or winning, certainly out in Australia. I still feel like they've got a great chance of winning in England as well."
England cricket chiefs have kept faith with Ben Stokes as Test captain, with coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key also retaining their jobs. "They've decided that that's the right way to go. We've seen it in the past where people have lost their jobs after Ashes series and maybe there have been knee-jerk reactions to what that is," Anderson said
