A mix of both bad luck and streaky strokes. Perhaps, this is what India needed. Shami comes and delivers on his very first ball. This is a back of a length ball on middle and off. Jennings tries to block it down but gets a faint inside edge on it. The ball goes through his legs, spins and goes on to do just enough for the bails to fall. Jennings looks back in disappointment but there is nothing he can do about it now. India celebrate.  98/2

62.3 OUT! JOE ROOT IS RUN OUT! A wicket against the run of play and it's all because of the athleticism of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Bairstow works this through mid-wicket and both batsmen set off quickly. They want the second, rush for it but Kohli is quick to the ball. He picks it up, turns and fires it at the bowler's end and actually scores a direct hit from a long distance. Unreal. Credit to Ashwin too, he knows where the ball's headed so doesn't touch it at all. Even the dive doesn't save Root, he's gone. Just what India wanted. Can they capitalize on this now?  216/4

Gets some heavy movement and catches Dawid Malan on the pads. Big shout and the finger goes up. The southpaw though, after speaking with his partner, decides to take it upstairs. 74.1 OUT! A poor, poor shot from Stokes and it has lead to his downfall. A short ball on middle and leg from Ashwin, Stokes had a lot of time to play it anywhere, maybe too much time. He looks to turn it to the on side and gets a leading edge straight to Ashwin. He moves to his left and accepts it with glee. So many hopes were relying on him but he has failed yet again.  243/7

Ashwin loops it up around off, it's quite slow through the air as it turns back in and catches Buttler on the knee roll who looks to work it across the line. It's on a length on middle and leg, straightens up after landing and then raps Vijay on the front pad who misses his defense. Big shout, but the umpire doesn't bother with it. After some deliberation, Root decides to review it and takes it upstairs. Replays come in and they show that Vijay is caught flush in front of stumps. Again, good pace on this as he pitches it around off, makes it go away and this time he draws the edge as Dhawan goes for the drive. Full and fired outside off, angling across, Rahul goes for the expansive drive through the covers but gets a big inside edge. Drags it back onto his stumps and they're shattered. 76 OUT! Absolutely against the run of play! Virat Kohli falls but he has not let India fall in this Test match. A brilliant 149 from him and England have managed just a 13-run lead. Rashid delivers a short ball outside off, Kohli camps back to play the square cut but ends up hitting it straight into the hands of Broad at backward point. He takes the catch and runs in joy towards the bowler. A standing ovation for the Indian skipper as he leaves the field. His wife Anushka Sharma is also applauding the effort of her man. 27.4 OUT! He's gone! Just when we were praising Rahane he's out of here. On a good length outside off, the ball bounces a little more than usual. Rahane is not fully into his late cut and hangs his bat outside. He gets a thick edge to it and the ball flies to Jennings at third slip. He collects the ball at chest height and joins in on the celebration. The umpires make Rahane wait as they want to check the no ball but Stokes does well not to overstep. They trail still by 187. 46 OUT! A toe-crusher from Curran. Literally. What a delivery. Wow. I asked early if he's the one to do it. Well, he is. Producing a repeat performance from the morning. Fires in an inswinging yorker on middle, it comes in and strikes Pandya on the toes. Big appeal and the finger goes up. Hardik reviews it, a desperate attempt for sure, because this looks plumb from everywhere. And replays show just that. A solid partnership of 48 comes to an end. Anderson dishes out a length ball outside off, holding its line, Shami gets forward attempting a drive, not too sure whether through the line or across the line, anyway that would not matter as the ball has found the edge of the bat. It flies behind and Malan at second slip stretches his hands to his left to claim the catch. India's trail is still over 100 and they have two wickets left. Ishant is in next.  182/8

63.4 OUT! Ishant Sharma is trapped in front. They appeal and the finger goes up. No DRS taken. Strangely. Rashid serves a googly, landing full around off and spinning in sharply. Ishant ain't forward to this, tries blocking from the crease but is beaten. It hits him on the pads, they appeal and the finger is up. Ishant is distraught and straightaway starts to walk to the pavilion. Hang on, the replays show that it's missing leg. Have India missed a trick? Why didn't Kohli stop his partner? This can prove to be a big moment in this Test match. Anyway a valuable partnership for India, well done Ishant for his gutsy effort with the willow.  217/9

3.4 OUT! Sound of timber! Action replay, Cook has been served the exact same menu to which he got out in the first innings! Ashwin has got Cook's number, has dismissed him 9 times in Tests now. Plenty of drift on this one as it lands on middle and spins away. Cook is forward in defense, tries to play the trajectory but is beaten by the turn. It goes past the outside half of his bat and hits the top of off stump. The Indian players are jumping up and down in celebration. They certainly know that it's a big wicket for them before the end of day's play. A duck for Alastair Cook and that will be Stumps on Day 2.  9/1

7.4 OUT! This was coming! Superbly bowled by Ashwin. He gives this one a good toss in the air and lands it full around off. Jennings has no option but to play at it as it's drifting in. He leans forward to defend with a straight bat but to his bad luck, it spins away and takes the outside edge. KL Rahul at second slip stretches his hands to his right and grabs a sharp catch. Early success for India. England lead by 31 runs and have both their openers back in the hut. On this wicket, an interesting point made by the on-air commentator. Jennings is seen taking a long stride forward and going at the ball, rather than allowing it to come at him. Joe Root, on the other hand, would have mostly played it late from the back. Another valid point made is that Keaton's effort is mainly to avoid DRS as he takes his bat ahead of the front pad to avoid the lbw.  18/2

He is up and running in celebration. Root also starts to walk after looking down for a moment in disbelief. The umpire has a little word with the English skipper, maybe on what exactly happened. Seems Root is sure that the catch is taken cleanly as he keeps on walking. Big blow to England. Coming to the delivery, it's a bit on the shorter side and turns back in sharply with extra bounce. Root tries flicking and does so straight towards Rahul at leg gully. He reacts quickly and somehow hangs onto it. India are roaring now.  39/3

26.2 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Ishant Sharma has been rewarded for the good bowling he's been doing so far. Totally on fire since the time he's come on, got the results for it with this wicket. Comes from around the wicket and angles in a length ball on off. It straightens up enough after landing, a little late and that does Dawid Malan in. He is squared up as he looks to flick and gets it off the leading edge towards Rahane at gully, who makes no mistake in taking that. England lead by 83 runs.  70/4

30.2 OUT! This time Ishant gets his man. That is an excellent catch from Shikhar Dhawan at first slip. Length delivery around off, shaping in and Bairstow hangs his bat inside the line. Gets a healthy edge which goes behind. Dhawan gets low to his right and collects it safely. Superb stuff. India in the driver's seat here. Mainly because they've got Jonny Bairstow, who's an excellent player of spin. England's lead is just two short of 100.  85/5

30.4 OUT! Ishant has another one. This is brilliant, brilliant bowling from the tall pacer. Terrific, terrific stuff. Comes from around the wicket and angles in a length ball on off. Much like Malan's wicket, this one also straightens up and gets Big Ben. He hangs his bat out to defend, edges it and it's taken by skipper Virat Kohli at at third slip, by diving low to his left. Ishant is screaming in joy, Kohli is all pumped up. India all over England like a rash. Also, it's time for LUNCH ON DAY 3!  86/6

31 OUT! Another blow to England, Ishant has his third wicket in the over and has completely demolished the home team. There goes England's last recognized batsman. What a spell! He worked hard initially and is finally getting the rewards. This one is more on the lines of a poor shot than a great delivery. Short and wide outside off, Buttler has the option to leave it but his natural instinct is always to go after the ball. He does that. Stays back inside the crease to flash his bat through the line. Gets a faint outside edge behind and Dinesh Karthik hangs on to the catch. The umpire checks for the front foot no ball and Ishant is just fine with his landing. The lead is of 100.  87/7

He catches the ball and then takes a needless tumble. End of a fantastic knock by Sam Curran, he though is disappointed in the manner he got out. The crowd is giving him a standing ovation. 44.4 OUT! Right through the gate! A 135 kph delivery by Yadav. A rip-roaring one. He pitches it on a length around off, nipping in enough to breach Rashid's defense. It goes right through and uproots the off stump. A handy 48-run stand is broken. Nicely set up by Umesh, bowled a couple of outswingers and then brought one in to dismiss Rashid. 52 OUT! Miracle, Dhawan has taken a catch! It's a 5-wicket haul for Ishant Sharma, 8th in Tests and 2nd against England. Top effort. He pitches this one up outside off and gets it to shape away. Broad is sucked into a drive through the line with a straight bat but edges it behind to Dhawan. He makes no mistake at first slip and then gets up to do his trademark thigh-slap. Hmmm...doesn't look too good when you have been dropping those. Anyway, England lead by 189 runs.  176/9

5.5 OUT! Gone! Vijay is a dead duck! Broad gets another one to come back in and Vijay has to take the long walk back. Broad lands this around off, the ball jags back in sharply. Vijay shoulders his arms thinking the ball will move the other way. It goes on to hit him on the front leg. Broad appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Murali has a chat with Dhawan but they opt not to take the review. And rightly so, since there was no shot offered the impact doesn't matter. And replays confirm it, the ball was going on to hit the stumps. England get their first.  19/1

7.3 OUT! There it is! Broad finds Dhawan's edge and gets his second. Beautiful bowling this from Stuart. For Dhawan, a very similar dismissal like the first innings. Broad pitches this full and outside off, Dhawan takes a step forward and looks to drive this. Gets a healthy edge and Bairstow moves to his left to take a simple catch. Both the openers back in the hut now and India need 172 more to win.  22/2

15 OUT! What a peach of a ball from Stokes! Squares up Rahul and gets the better of him. Like I mentioned before, KL has a problem outside off but this time he cannot do anything about it. Ben bowls this on a good length from over the wicket. It pitches and moves away sharply. Rahul looks to block it away but gets an edge to the keeper. The umpire raises his finger and Rahul walks. India in all sorts of trouble.  46/3

46.3 OUT! Stokes has struck gold! Massive, massive moment in the game. Kohli trudges off the ground. He is getting a standing ovation though. Knowing him, he will be deeply disappointed. It was a good delivery to be honest. Stokes surprises the Indian skipper with an inswinger. It jags back in from around off, Kohli plants his front foot forward and across as he attempts to flick it. Misses the ball completely to get rapped on the pads and they let out a huge cry for an lbw. Umpire Aleem Dar has no hesitation in raising his finger. Root sets off in celebration. Stokes is pumped up. Barmy Army has gone bonkers. Kohli somewhere knows he is gone. Still tries his luck and takes the DRS. The replays roll in. It's not a no ball, has hit Kohli in line and is taking the leg stump. Is this the game?  141/7

21.4 OUT! Sam Curran is continuing on with his fine form. Provides the breakthrough when it's needed. But, this wicket is largely down to Rahane's poor shot. It's a nothing delivery outside off, Rahane for some reason loosely feels for it and gets an under edge. It goes behind and Jonny Bairstow takes a low catch. He's up celebrating already but the umpire just wants to make sure if the catch was taken cleanly or not. He takes it upstairs and replays show that the catch is just clean. Ajinkya Rahane was struggling to counter the variable bounce since he came on, given in to it eventually. Kohli once again running out of partners.  63/4

50 OUT! It's plumb and the number 9 goes down for India. Adil Rashid has done the job for England. A well-disguised googly by the leggie, not read by Ishant, who gets forward to defend. Misses the ball completely and is rapped on the pads. They appeal but the umpire remains unmoved. Rashid is very sure and Joe Root gets convinced. Takes the DRS and the replays show three reds. No inside edge also though there is some spike on the Snicko. But it can be of the bat touching the pad. The third umpire thinks so and overturns the on-field call. In hindsight, Pandya should not have taken the second run. Ishant was given lbw in the first innings also when he failed to read the googly. Hardik missed a trick probably. It's all on him now.  154/9
