Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 5, Live Updates:  Bindyarani Devi is still in fight for a medal in the 58kg weightlifting event. She is aiming for India's 6th medal of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Earlier, Gyaneshwari Yadav won a silver medal for India in the 53kg category. India have so far won five medals - one gold, three silver and one bronze (another medal is assured in boxing). In boxing, Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush (80kg) have entered the quarter-finals. Athletics action is also underway at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Monday. India's fastest man, Gurindervir Singh, is out of the race for a place in the men's 100m semi-final, while long-jumpers Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Sathyanathan along with 110m hurdles star Tejas Shirse are in the final. CWG 2026 Live: Rafiatu Folashade in massive lead

Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade LAWAL has broken the CWG record again with a 100kg lift. Hold on! She betters it even further and lifts 103kg. She is on the way to gold as of now! She has taken a massive 9kg over the second-placed Canada's Anna Sophie TASCHEREAU.

CWG 2026 Live: Nigeria in lead

Canada's Ann Sophie TASCHEREAU failed to lift 94kg in her first two attempts. But she does it in the third attempt - it's a Games record. Now, it's time for Rafiatu Folashade LAWAL. And she sucessfully lifts 95kg. She has taken the lead with a new Games record.

CWG Live: Bindyarani Devi lifts 87kg in third attempt

Currently, England's Eliza Pratt and India's Bindyarani Devi are joint third with lifts of 87kg each considering Canada's Ann Sophie and Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade are attempting over 90kg. Fingers crossed!

CWG Live: Bindyarani Devi lifts 85kg

England's Eliza Pratt successfully lifts 84kg in her second attempt while Australia's Ashley Kolomoisky also lifts the same weight, but it's her third attempt. Bindyarani Devi has lifted 85kg in her second attempt. 

CWG Live: Bindyarani Devi lifts 83kg

Bindyarani Devi has successfully lifted 83kg and after her England's Eliza Pratt fails to lift 84kg in her first attempt. Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade And Canada's Ann Sophie will attempt 90kg and 93kg respectively.

As we wait for Bindya Rani's first lift, let's take a look at the events that India will compete this evening (And there are quite a few)!

After Bindyarani's event, first up would be Putul Sonowal in Lawn bowls at 10:05pm followed by Sakshi Choudhary [vs Lethabo Modukanele (Botswana)] in Women's 51kg boxing Round of 16 at 10:30pm.

Canada's Ann Sophie Taschereau will start with 93kg, Nigeria's Rafiatu Lawal with 90kg. However, this is provisional list. It can be upgraded/changed as the event progresses.

And the women's 58kg weightlifitng final starts! The 27-year-old Bindyarani Devi is a silver medallist from the last CWG. Today, she has set her first attempt in snatch at 85kg. This is the third heaviest among all competitors.

Next up for India is the 27-year-old  Bindyaranai Devi. She won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a total lift of 202 kg and will be expected to win another medal for India.

Gyaneshwari Yadav, the 23-year-old from Bhondiya village in Chhattisgarh, is an assistant sub-inspector in state police. Her father was a bodybuilder but gave up his dreams due to financial constraints. He works as a electrician now,

Commonwealth Games Live: SILVER FOR INDIA!

There it is! GYANESHWARI YADAV is a CWG silver medal winner! The first medal for India today, and fifth overall. She lifted a total of 199 kg (88kg in snatch and 111 in clean and jerk). The gold went to Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih with a total lift of 206 kg (93kg and 113kg) - a Commonwealth Games record. Canada's Rebeka Groulx is the bronze medal winner.  

CWG 2026 Live: No medal in gymnastics

India's Protistha Samanta finished seventh in the women's vault final of artistic gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games on Monday. The 22-year-old from West Bengal, who had qualified seventh for the eight-woman final, averaged 12.883 after scoring 12.700 on her first vault and 12.666 on her second.

Canada's Lia-Monica Fontaine clinched the gold medal with a commanding display. Fontaine, the top qualifier, successfully retained her lead in the final, averaging 14.000 from scores of 14.000 and 13.600.

England's Abigail Martin claimed the silver medal with 13.799, while Wales' Abigail Roper took bronze with 13.433.

Nigeria's Onome Omolola DIDIH successfully lifts 105kg to hold her top spot. Gyaneshwari responds with clean and jerk Games record of 110kg. But it may not be enough for a gold, as the Nigerian star also list 110kg in second attempt. There is still a diffence of 8kg.

In Women's Vault Final WOMEN'S VAULT FINAL Protistha SAMANTA is in action. And she comes up with a score of 12.883, which will not be enough for a medal.

CWG 2026 Live: Clean and jerk round starts

The clean and jerk round has started. In the next 40 minutes, we will get to know if India will win its second gold medal in weightlifting or not. Current leader Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih has listed 100kg (as of yet) as her first attempt while Gyaneshwari will attempt 103 kg.

Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih is firmly on pole to get the gold in 53kg weightlifting event after the end of the snatch round. Her third attempt of 93 kg is a Commonwealth Games record. India's Gyaneshwari is currently placed second with a best lift of 88kg. Canada's Rebeka Groulx is third with a best attempt of 83kg.

Meanwhile, Ankush has quite comfortably negated the challenge of the Antigua boxer Zalaan JAN to storm into the quarter-finals. He is one win away from a coveted medal.

Gyaneshwari Yadav lift 82kg in her first attempt. She is in medal contention. Nigeria's Onome Omolola DIDIH responds with a 85kg lift in her first attempt, that's a Games record.

The second round goes to Ankush again. He looks primed to enter the quarter-finals. His movement has been nimble, and he took full advantage of Zalaan Jan's loose defence to land a couple of punches in Round 2. Again, it's a 5-0 verdict.

In the boxing ring, Ankush has taken the Rd 1 with a 5:0 verdict in Men's 80kg Round of 16 against the Antigua and Barbuda boxer. He used his better reach to good effect to land a couple of solid punches.

In the Men's 80kg Round of 16, Ankush will fight fron the red corner while Zalaan Jan (Antigua and Barbuda) is in the blue corner.

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea's Loa Dika Toua has been eliminated. She failed to lift any of her weight so far. Australia's Brenna Mae Kean's is the leader as of now with a best lift of 73kg.

As we wait for Gyaneshwari, it's time for Ankush vs Zalaan Jan (Antigua and Barbuda) in Men's 80kg Round of 16 in boxing.

CWG 2026 Live: A long wait!

Gyaneshwari Yadav's event has started. There are 10 competitors. Gyaneshwari's first attempt is 83kg, so it will be a long wait before she comes on stage. It is almost reminiscent of how Mirabai Chanu performed. Her listed weight was higher than anyone else's in her group.

Gyaneshwari Yadav has listed 83kg in snatch while her first attempt in clean and jerk will be 103kg. Both are the heaviest among all. She is clearly going for gold here. She is the silver medallist at the Asian Weightlifting Championship.

CWG 2026 Live: Medal event coming up

Next up for India is Gyaneshwari Yadav, who is set to compete in the women's 53kg weightlifting final. She will be eyeing India's fourth medal in the discipline. India have so far won one gold and two silver medals in weightlifting. Gyaneshwari will be aiming for gold.

CWG 2026 Live: Sreeshankar Surpassed

Jamaica's Tajay GAYLE (8:10m) and St Vincent and The Grenadines' Uroy Ryan (8.04m) were better than Sreeshankar (8:01m) in the qualification. Those three were the only ones to cross the automatic qualification mark in long jump.

Great news from long jump! After Murali Sreeshankar, Lokesh Sathaynathan has qualified for the final too. His best attempt was 7.77m. Out of three attampts, two were not counted as he overstepped. He qualified with the seventh best distance. Meanwhile, Murali Sreeshankar has been displaced as the best jumper in qualification round.

The third round ends. It is time for the result. AND the winner is Sachin! He has entered the quarter-finals! He looked technically a lot better.

The second round also goes Sachin's way. After the initial scratchy start Sachin has looked a lot better. He is ducking well and forcing Hewitt to open up.

Sachin has taken Rd 1 with a 4:1 verdict. This is good and will give him much needed confidence. Hewitt was the faster of the two initially but Sachin managed to land a couple of heavy blows towards the end.

And Sachin's bout starts! He is in the red corner while Hewitt is fighting from the blue corner. The England boxer looks to be the more aggressive of the two. The Indian is yet to land a solid punch but defensively looks decent. It might be a split decision in Rd 1.

Meanwhile, Lokesh Sathayanthan is still in action in the long jump qualification round, but the focus now shifts to the boxing ring, where Sachin Siwach will face England's William Hewitt in the men's 60kg Round of 16.

Meanwhile, good news is coming from the pool. India's Swaitk Patil has qualified for the men's 100m Breaststroke SB9 final. He finished sixth overall (1:15.85) among 10 competitors in the heats. The rules state that the eight fastest swimmers from the heats qualify for the final. The remainder are eliminated. His final is later today at 12:02 AM.

Lokesh Satyanathan in with a great chance. He jumped 7.77m in his first attempt and is currently on top of Group B. Combined he has the fourth best jump now if we look at the overall numbers. Only India's Murali Sreeshankar has qualified for the final officially. All athletes meeting the Qualification Standard 8m (Q) or at least 12 best performers (q) advance to the Final.

After a shaky start, Tejas recovers in time to take third place! Samuel Bennett of England is first in Heat 1 with a time of 13.20s, Jerome Campbell of Jamaica second with 13.33s, while Tejas Ashok Shirse is third with 13.76s. Tejas' personal best is 13.27s, He will hope to go under that mark in the 110m hurdles final at 2:15 AM!

Soon, Tejas Shirse will be in action Men's 110m Hurdles Heats. There will only be two heats. Shirse is in Heat 1. In total there are 16 competitors. First 3 in each heat (Q) and the next 2 fastest (q) advance to the final.

Heat 9 is over in 100m Round 1. Gurindervir Singh, India's fastest man, has been knocked out. After the 9th heat, Gurindervir has dropped to 20th with a timing of 10.39 seconds. Only the top-17 will through to the semifinals.

Another brilliant piece of news from Glasgow! Sajan Prakash finished Heat 2 in second place with a time of 1:58.59, below his PB of 1:57.09. But, the effort is enough for him to clock the seventh-fastest time overall. HE HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL.

Gurindervir Singh is now the ninth-fastest overall in the men's 100m heats. Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati dominated Heat 5 with a blistering 10.00s finish, while Jersey's Jamie Oldham took second in 10.41s, leaving Gurindervir’s 10.39s mark intact as he pushes for a semi-final spot. It's going to be tough for Gurindervir to finish among the top 10 sprinters from here on.

A total of seven athletes have been given a bye into the semifinals, while the other ten will come from the eleven heats today. There will be no automatic qualification.
