Sonowal beats Bester in the tiebreaker! Another dramatic tiebreak win for India in lawn bowls, but this is a huge shock. Ryan Bester, the reigning World Outdoors Champion and a three-time CWG medalist, has been beaten!

The second set has been won by Canada's Ryan Bester. An excellent comeback from the 41-year-old veteran, as he dominates proceedings and clinches the second set 7-3. Onto the tiebreaker!

A hard-fought Set 1 is won by Putul Sonowal. A terrific start for the Commonwealth Games debutant, up against three-time CWG medalist Ryan Bester. 

India's second lawn bowls assignment of the day is underway! Putul Sonowal is up against Canada's Ryan Bester in the Men's Singles Sectional Play Round 1.

Victory for India! Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh have delivered India a victory in their first event of CWG 2026. A win for India over Malta in their first Round 1 game of Women's Pairs Sectional Play. 

Up next, Putul Sonowal in Men's Singles Sectional Play Round 1.

The Round 1 game of the Women's Pairs Sectional Play is going to a tiebreaker, because Malta have won Set 2 4-3. A great comeback from the Malta duo. 

While Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh are in action in Round 1 of the Women's Pairs Sectional Play, another lawn bowls match featuring India is also set to start shortly. Putul Sonowal is going to feature in the Men's Singles Sectional Play Round 1, where he will take on Canada's Ryan Bester.

Sonowal's match is schedued to start at 6:15 PM IST (1:45 PM local time).

India have won the first set, dominating Malta to clinch it 7-1. Rupa Rani Tirkey is in fine form. A very good start in the Women's Pairs Sectional Play Round 1 game.

India's judo star Arun Kumar has failed an out of competition dope test and has been forced to withdraw from Commonwealth Games 2026. He tested positive for an anabolic steroid.

The men's judo team are in action from July 31 at CWG 2026.

India's weightlifting quota for Commonwealth Games 2026 has been reduced to 11 due to multiple Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs). As a result, weightlifter Dilbagh Singh has withdrawn from the Games.

On why Dilbagh was the one withdrawn, a source told PTI: "Since Dilbagh is suffering from a back injury and did not train at all during the preparatory camp in Birmingham, a decision was made to withdraw him."

Australia and Guernsey have won their respective Women's Pairs match 2-0. 

The Men's Singles event, on the other hand, has seen Gary Kelly and Shanon Mcilroy have emergd victorious for their respective countries.

At the opening ceremony in Glasgow, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will carry the Indian tricolour while boxer Lovlina Borgohain will bear the ceremonial baton. The two estemeed athletes have been rightly given the honour!

Mohammed Ali Qamar, a CWG gold medallist and former Indian women's team coach, on his hopes for boxing:

"Lovlina has been competing for many years. She has an Olympic medal. She has a lot of experience. If she practices well, she will perform well. She has been playing for a long time."

"Her last performance was a little weak. In the main 75, she will face England and Scotland. She will face Canada and Australia. Australia has good boxers. She has won a medal in the Olympics."

"All of them are good. Lovlina will do well. Arundhati, Sakshi Malik, Jasmine, Preeti, Priya. All of them are good boxers. I hope they perform well and win a medal."

The first couple of matches to begin in Women's Pairs are Australia vs Zambia and Guernsey vs Isle of Man. India's match isn't expected to begin before 4:50 PM IST. Don't worry, we'll keep you updated!

Lovlina got the bye as only 5 boxers were available in the quarter-finals. With only five athletes in the draw, three competitors, including Borgohain, advanced straight to the last four, while the remaining two will compete in the only quarter-final match.

A pleasant surprise from the Commonwealth Games 2026, even before the opening ceremony. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain is assured of a medal in the women's 75kg event. She qualified for the semifinals after receiving a bye in the quarterfinals. She advances directly to the semifinals, where she will face Taafaki TKBP of Tuvalu.

While the Lawn Bowls begin at 2:00 PM IST, it might take some time before India's events begin. The tentative schedule is as below:

4:50 PM: Lawn Bowls (Women's Pairs), Rupa Rani Tirkey & Pinki | SEC Centre

6:15 PM: Lawn Bowls (Men's Singles), Putul Sonowal | SEC Centre

India will begin their campaign with lawn bowl events across men's and women's disciplines. After creating history with unforgettable medal-winning performances in 2022 edition, the Indian lawn bowls team heads to Glasgow, Scotland, determined to challenge the world's best once again at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories will compete across 10 sports, with 215 gold medals up for grabs. For India, it will mark the nation's 19th appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having made its debut in the 1934 edition.
