Helsinki:

Neelam Jaswant Singh's family has defended her after the discus thrower failed a drug test at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki on Saturday. Neelam's family said that anti-inflammatory medication for a back problem led to her testing positive for a banned stimulant. The 34-year-old discus thrower is the first athlete from among 1800 to test positive at the Championships. Neelam has been provisionally suspended and now faces an enquiry by the Athletics Federation of India or the AFI. The athlete is apparently still not back in India as yet.
