Marion Jones pleaded guilty to investigators soon after she denied using banned steroids in the run up to the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The decision will now most likely cause her to lose out the five medals she won at those games.
The 31-year-old who now also faces the prospect of up to six months in jail admitted in a letter on Thursday to her family and friends that she had indeed used performance enhancing drugs prior to the Sydney Olympics.
