African athletes stole the show at the 2006 Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.
While the Kenyans notched top two places in the men's category, two Ethiopian athletes bagged top positions in the women's section.
In the men's category, Kenya's Rono Daniel finished first, winning a prize money of $30,000.
In the women's category, Ethiopian Mulu Setoka bagged the first place and earned $20,000.
Naturam Singh of the Army Sports Institute came first in the Full Marathon in the Indian men's category, while Leelamma Alphonsa of Western Railway stood first in the women's category.
Great participation
The event is spread over five categories, namely Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, Senior Citizens' Marathon and the Dream Run.
More than 30,000 people from varied age groups participated, while thousands more watched and cheered them along the way.
Maharashtra Governor SM Krishna and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh flagged off the Full and Half Marathons, while film stars Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee set off the Senior Citizens' and Wheelchair Marathons.
The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is the third leg of the "World Cup of Marathons" which began in Nairobi in October 2005 and moved to Singapore in December.
After Mumbai, the event's final leg will be held in Hong Kong on February 12, 2006. The total prize money this year is $210,000. (With PTI inputs)
