Anju set for long jump final

Anju is set to compete in the long jump finals at Athens today.

India's hopes of winning their second medal at the Athens Olympics rest on Anju Bobby George. Anju is set to compete in the long jump finals at Athens today. On Wednesday, Anju had little trouble in crossing the qualifying mark of 6.65 meters. She jumped 6.69 metres in her very first attempt. Anju finished fifth in Group A, which had eight qualifiers. Twelve jumpers have qualified for the final. Her personal best is 6.74 metres. This season her best effort has been 6.71m. Anju became only the second Indian woman athlete to figure in an Olympic final. P T Usha, who achieved the distinction in the 400m hurdles at the 1984 games at Los Angeles, had finished fourth in a close finish.
