Bangalore:

The last two years have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for Anju Bobby George. From the euphoria of a world championship bronze to the disappointment of missing out on a medal at the Athens Olympics. But now, the long jumper is looking ahead to a new season with new goals. Training hardAnju in training for a long season of competition has become a familiar sight on the Sports Authority of India track in Bangalore. As she starts the season with the Doha Super Grand Prix on May 13, the long jumper has set three goals for herself - to break into the top three in world rankings, win a medal again at the world championships, and register 7 metre jumps consistently at the international level. Anju's best jump in competition was 6.83 metres at the Athens Olympics. Her coach and husband Bobby George says that she has it in her to improve on that performance and the focus of the training is on consistency and working on the run-up to cut down on fouls. No official supportHowever, it's an effort that is being made almost entirely by the young couple alone. Anju has been amongst the top 10 jumpers in the world since August 2003, all without official support. Long seasonAnju Bobby George has a long season to achieve her goals in. The season includes almost 24 international meets from the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon in early June, to the Asian Grand Prix series and the European circuit. However, Anju's main aim will be defending and improving on her bronze medal at the Helsinki World Championships in August and then the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne next year.
