MI-W vs GG-W Live, WPL 2026
That is it from the run fest! Although we are signing off for today, the WPL 2026 action rolls right on this Wednesday, January 14th, with a blockbuster showdown between the Delhi Capitals Women and the UP Warriorz Women. Be sure to tune in before the 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) start time to catch all our pre-match analysis. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of the Mumbai Indians, is also the Player of the Match for her exceptional unbeaten knock of 71 runs. She also gets the orange cap. She says that it was a good game. While bowling, they gave too many runs, so that is something they need to discuss but the way they batted was excellent. She adds that in a tournament like this, they need to score somewhere over 200, so they were somewhat prepared for this. She says that for her, every match is important and she bats for her team. Ends by saying that it is good to see the youngsters play so good, and whenever they give a good performance, it feels good.
Nicola Carey is in for a chat. She says that it was fun and it was a good team performance. Adds that they knew they wanted to go big and the wicket was good to bat on so they played big shots and put their bowlers under pressure.
Ashleigh Gardner, the skipper of Gujarat Giants, says that they dropped a few catches and that it is what cost them the game. Adds that Harmanpreet Kaur was excellent and they took some poor decisions throughout the game. She says that they had some positives to take from the game, and Bharti Fulmali was excellent with the bat. Ends by saying that 193 was a winning target but they failed to defend it.
Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, the Gujarat Giants posted a mammoth total of 192/5, driven by a blistering finish where they plundered 62 runs in the final five overs, including 23 off the last. While Beth Mooney and Kanika Ahuja laid the foundation, the innings was defined by a tactical masterstroke to retire out Ayushi Soni, allowing Bharti Fulmali to combine with Georgia Wareham and dismantle the Mumbai Indians' death bowling. Despite Shabnim Ismail’s disciplined spell, the MI attack struggled to contain the late onslaught, leaving their batters with a steep chase on a batting-friendly wicket.
It was a fielding nightmare for the Gujarat Giants, who will be rueing those three dropped catches of Harmanpreet Kaur that ultimately cost them the game. They failed to pick up wickets at regular intervals, allowing the momentum to shift away from them. Although Renuka Singh Thakur, Kashvee Gautam, and Sophie Devine managed a solitary wicket each, it wasn't enough to stop the run flow. Their inability to break partnerships proved fatal, letting a massive total slip through their fingers.
Mumbai Indians extend their dominance to a perfect 8-0 against the Gujarat Giants! Chasing a mammoth target of 193, MI needed something special after losing G Kamalini early and Hayley Matthews for a quickfire 22 in the powerplay. Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur did a brilliant job to steady the ship, taking the score to 88/2 at the halfway mark. After Amanjot Kaur's departure for a well-made 40 off 26, Nicola Carey joined her skipper and unleashed an all-out attack on the bowlers to hunt down the total. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 71* from 43 balls while Nicola Carey scored 38* from 23 runs.
