Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna made victorious starts to their Sony Open campaigns in Miami on Saturday with wins in the first round of the doubles event.
Sania, paired with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, beat Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic and American Varvara Lepchenko 7-5 6-3.
The seventh-seeded Indo-American duo overpowered their unseeded opponents in an hour and 21 minutes.
Sania and Bethanie will now face Jarmila Gasdosova of Australia and Sabine Lisicki in the second round.
On the other hand, Rohan Bopanna and Rajeev Ram combined to beat Eric Butorac and Paul Hanley 7-6 6-4 to book a Round 2 clash against second seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.
Bopanna and Ram beat the Australian-American duo in a match that went on for an hour and 22 minutes.
