Sam Stosur's first tournament on home soil since winning the U.S. Open ended in an upset second-round loss to Iveta Benesova at the Brisbane International on Wednesday.
Top-seeded Stosur was broken in the crucial seventh game and dropped serve twice in the second set of a 6-4, 6-2 defeat - her first loss in five matches against the 28-year-old Czech.
The No. 54-ranked Benesova advances to the quarterfinals, where she'll meet Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters.
The loss continued a disappointing run in her home tournament for Stosur, who was also ousted in the second round last year when seeded No. 1.
Serena Williams, who lost the U.S. Open final to Stosur last September, was next on center court against Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia.
