Known for her gut-wrenching screams when serving on the tennis court, Maria Sharapova has revealed that spiders and dentists bring out the fearful shrieks in real life. In an interview to UK's Sport magazine, the 27-year-old Russian tennis sensation revealed that spiders and dentists are her two biggest fears.
"I have two phobias. Going to the dentist and to face a spider," she said. While arachnophobia, or fear of the crawly insects, may be avoidable, Sharapova's mesmerizing smile shows that she may have tried to overcome her fear of dentists on a number of occasions.
The former world No. 1 has indeed had many reasons to flash her smile in recent months. After a forgettable 2013 where a shoulder injury ravaged her on-court performance, Sharapova fought her way back to No. 2 spot in WTA rankings this year.
Sharapova won the French Open and went on to claim the trophies in Stuttgart, Madrid and Beijing. And while she lost the WTA Finals in Singapore to Serena Williams, Sharapova is proud of her efforts.
"I know I'm not moving forward, but I'm proud of that effort and to finish the year off on this way. I will not be chasing the No 1 ranking next season. I think adding more Grand Slams is the top priority," she said.
Tennis engagements may have kept her busy through the year but Sharapova also has several business ventures to take care off. Apart from her fashion and perfume business, she also has a line of candies - Sugarpova - to take care of.
And while she may not look forward to a visit to her dentist, the sweetheart of tennis has hardly let it stop her from promoting the candy when not busy defeating opponents on the tennis court.
