"I think they've both gone pretty deep into Slams before with different partners, so we knew as soon as the draw came out that it was a really tough match," Sania said after the win. (Heather Watson Defies Death Threats to Shine)
"They've both had matches in the singles, so for us it's a bit tricky, but we made a good start - were unlucky not to break in the first game - and as the match went on we felt pretty solid," the Indian star added.
Hingis and Sania have struck a strong combination and had a breathtaking beginning to their partnership by winning their first three tournaments. The Swiss-Indo pair however, faltered on the clay court falling early in both Stuttgart and Madrid and then were ousted in the French Open quarterfinals by Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova.
In the second round, Hingis and Sania will face the partnership of Kimiko Date-Krumm and Francesca Schiavone.
In the men's doubles, Leander Paes and Canada's Daniel Nestor progressed to the second round, while Purav Raja and his French team-mate Fabrice Martin crashed out.
