Cilic beats Berdych to reach Open 13 semis

Marin Cilic of Croatia upset second-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 in a quarterfinal match on Friday at the Open 13.

Cilic dominated from the outset and sealed the match with a superb forehand passing shot after a long rally.

The 22-year-old Cilic plays the winner of Friday's later quarterfinal between third-seeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia and sixth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

Later, defending champion Michael Llodra of France, seeded eighth, was playing top-seeded Robin Soderling of Sweden, and fourth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria took on the unseeded Russian player Dmitry Tursunov.
