"I feel we were always in the game when we started. I think we bowled really well in the beginning, and the way they batted after that from 7 to 15, I think they batted really well. Overall, if we see, we bowled really well, but we could have batted a little better," said India captain Suryakumar Yadav.

"We lost too many wickets in the powerplay and then we couldn’t have small, small partnerships which we wanted, but that’s part of the game. We learn from it, we’ll sit back and then come back stronger," he added.

"Just about making sure you stick to your strengths and don't go into your shell. During the powerplay, all fielders were in the ring, so I thought of going over. Trying to get a partnership as much as we could, and trying to rotate strike. (Main scoring areas) With the nature of this ground, you want to look straight - smaller there than square. Want to shape up to hit straight and then react. Looking to be nice and aggressive against the spinners. They have world-class bowlers. Have played against them a lot, trying to put them under pressure and putting yourself in the position to do that," said David Miller after bagging the Player of the Match award.

India were in control when South Africa were reduced to 20 for 3, but once David Miller and Dewald Brevis took over, India kept chasing. The Proteas managed to post 187 despite losing wickets in a cluster towards the end. In the second innings, the Indian batters failed to respect the conditions, while the South African bowlers stuck to their plan after terrific homework. As a result, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side could not find itself anywhere in the chase and ended up too short of the target.

Jasprit Bumrah has been dismissed by Marco Jansen, and that ends the game. South Africa have defeated India by 76 runs! Not only this defeat, but the margin could also come back to haunt India, as their net run rate is going to take a big blow.
