Bula Chowdhary swims across Palk Straits
Thirty four year old Bula Chowdhary has crossed the Palk Straits in the Indian Ocean today.

Thirty four year old Bula Chowdhary has crossed the Palk Straits in the Indian Ocean today. This is the last of the seven seas conquered by Chowdhary, who took approximately 14 hours to cover the 40 kilometre stretch which separates India and Sri Lanka. Bula, the mother of one child, is the first woman in the world to have conquered the seven seas. Starting her jounrney from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka at 3:00 am local time (2:30 am IST), the 34-year-old Chowdhury took 13 hours and 52 minutes to cross a distance of 40 km to reach this Tamil Nadu coastal village shores at 4.22 pm. "Choudhury created a world record today. there were few men who had achieved similar feats earlier but no other woman in the world has crossed the seven sea channels", FINA referee and observer of the feat J A S Somamchandra said.(With PTI inputs)
