The retention ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Auction witnessed some big records. SunRisers Hyderabad retained wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen for a sum of Rs 23 crore. This made the wicketkeeper-batter the costliest player retained ever in IPL history. Before this, Virat Kohli was the player with the distinction after being retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for Rs 17 crore in 2017.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru paid a whopping Rs 21 crore for their former captain and star batter Virat Kohli, making him the first-ever Indian player to fetch a sum of over Rs 20 crore.
Among the other highlights, Mumbai Indians paid a whopping sum of Rs 18 crore to Jasprit Bumrah, who was their first-choice retention.
It is interesting to note that a new rule change regarding the uncapped category has allowed Chennai Super Kings retain their legendary player MS Dhoni for a sum as low as Rs 4 crore.
Here are the players who received the highest retention amount ahead of IPL 2025. Heinrich Klaasen (SRH) - Rs 23 crore, Virat Kohli (RCB) - Rs 21 crore, Nicholas Pooran (LSG) - Rs 21 crore. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins (SRH), Sanju Samson (RR), Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), Rashid Khan (GT), Jasprit Bumrah (MI), Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK), Ravindra Jadeja (CSK) all of them got Rs 18 crore each.
