That game starts at 7.30 pm IST (2.00 pm GMT). Our coverage though will start well in advance. So do join us for the same, Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Mukesh Choudhary is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says he never thought he would never play cricket and he use to play all the sports in school and as he grew he gained interest in cricket. Mentions he tries to swing the ball and he practices for it and has worked on his wrists. Mentions there is no pressure and the seniors help him a lot.
Ravindra Jadeja, the skipper of Chennai, says that they were very tensed but they believed in Dhoni. Mentions Dhoni is still as good as he was. States that Mukesh Choudhary swings the new ball and that's why he was given the overs in the Powerplay. Adds they have a lot of experience and they know when to perform and when not to. Admits the fielding was not great and they need to work on it.
Time for the presentation.
Dwaine Pretorius is down for a chat. He says he wanted to play the scoop shot in previous over of Bumrah but he waited and then when he went for it it came off. Adds they knew they needed 5 boundaries and it came. States he is hopeful of winning a few more games and he is happy with his contribution.
Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says that it was a very good fight in the end by them, the bowlers kept them in the game but Dhoni took it away from them. Mentions they are losing early wickets and playing the catch up game but they got to a reasonable score and always had them under pressure but Dhoni got them home. Adds they back themselves to defend anything but the pitch was good and they could have got more and in the end it was not enough.
Time for some interviews!
Unfortunately for Mumbai they have lost seven games in a row now. They did pretty well to get in a position to win this game after the disastrous start with the bat annd credit should be given to Tilak Varma, the way he paced his innings to take Mumbai to a fighting total. Sams then, was the star with the ball and almost took his team over the line but Jaydev Unadkat after bowling quite well through the game just could not hold his nerves against the genius of MS Dhoni. Mumbai now are staring down the barrel and they will need a miracle to qualify for the playoffs from here.
Chennai started the match with a bang as Mukesh Choudhary made the new ball talk and got three wickets early in the Powerplay. Mumbai were always behind the 8-ball after that but Mumbai managed to put a decent total on the board in the end. The death bowling remains a concern for Chennai but they still had the match in the grasp after the first innings, They lost early wickets in the chase but the third wicket partnership between Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu steadied the ship and then Dwaine Pretorius and Dhoni has a great partnership in the end. However, it was Dhoni who turned back the clock as he finished the chase in his cool and calm manner as he smashed 16 runs from the last four balls.
It's an EL Clasico of the Indian T20 League and one can never expect the game between these two sides to end without some drama. It was the case yet again in this game as the momentum kept swinging from one team to another but in the end it is Chennai that have emerged victorious. Thanks to the partnership between Dwaine Pretorius and MS Dhoni and when it comes down to the last over, MS Dhoni is always the favourite to win the game, no matter what the target is!
VINTAGE DHONI!!! Chennai clinch the thriller off the last ball of the game and it is none other than MS Dhoni, arguably the best finisher in modern cricket who turns the game in his side's favour with a final over heroics yet again!
19.6 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! DHONI PUTS IT AWAY! That is why he is the best finisher in the world! Dhoni you absolute beauty! Probably not off the middle but he won't care! He has just turned back the clock. Sprinted for two on the previous ball, took the onus onto him and finishes it off! A low full toss on the pads, Dhoni swings, it goes more off the inner half through backward square leg and into the boundary. CHENNAI WIN IT ON THE LSAT BALL BY 3 WICKETS!
19.5 overs (2 Runs) Two which means a boundary needed on the last ball! This is full and on middle, really good delivery, difficult to get those away. This is whipped through mid-wicket and two is taken.
19.4 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Up and over! Just the one hit away now are Chennai from winning this game! Two balls to go! Dhoni just turning back the clock here. 150 up too. A short one with fine leg up. Dhoni looks to pull but it goes off the top edge and over the short fine leg fielder and into the boundary.
19.3 overs (6 Runs) SIX! He has hit that some! What a shot. Vintage Dhoni. Brute of a stroke and the noise of the crowd has just gone up that level. This is right in the slot. Full and on middle, this is thumped over the long off fence for a biggie. 10 needed now in three.
19.2 overs (1 Run) On middle, fuller, this is worked through mid-wicket and a single is taken. Dhoni now comes on strike, the crowd here erupts.
Dwayne Bravo is the next man in.
19.1 overs (0 Run) A huge appeal but turned down! The batters cross for one but it is reviewed. OUT! THREE REDS AND THAT IS A SUPERB START TO THE LAST OVER! Excellent review! A full one on the pads, Dwaine Pretorius looks to flick but misses to get hit on it. It rolls on the off side as the batters go for one. Jaydev Unadkat puts in a loud appeal but turned down. It is reviewed and replays show that Dwaine Pretorius has to take the long walk back. Also, the new man will be on strike now. 17 needed in 5.
Jaydev Unadkat will bowl the last over. Can he defend 16 runs here? He has gone for 31 runs in his three overs so far! We have match on our hands folks! Can Jaydev Unadkat held his nerves? He has the best finisher in the world to deal with, can MS Dhoni turn back the clock?
18.6 overs (1 Run) No, it is just the one which means 17 will be needed in the last over! A full one on middle, Dwaine Pretorius hits it down to long on and keeps strike.
18.5 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! That is very clever, very, very clever, second boundary in the over and Dwaine Pretorius is playing a superb knock here! He moves across early, this is a full toss on off, he plays the paddle scoop fine down the leg side and bags a boundary. 18 needed, can Dwaine Pretorius end it with a biggie now?
18.4 overs (1 Run) He had hit that really hard! Fuller and on middle, this is thumped down to long on for one.
18.3 overs (1 Run) Another full toss but quite quick, Dwaine Pretorius mistimes it down to long off for one.
18.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! That is crunched! A boundary early in the over and 24 now needed in 10. This is full and on off, Dwaine Pretorius smashes it down the ground. Sams runs to his right from long off and dives but does so over the ball.
18.1 overs (0 Run) Confusion but safe! More importantly a dot for Mumbai! A full toss, Dwaine Pretorius hits it to Rohit Sharma at covers. He takes off but is sent back by Dhoni. Rohit waits and then has a shy at the keeper's end but misses.
17.6 overs (1 Run) Outside off, this is hit firmly through covers but the fielder at long off runs to his left and keeps it down to one. Just the two singles on the last two balls but that is a huge over. Chennai back in it. 28 needed in 13.
17.5 overs (1 Run) Another single! On middle, this is worked through mid-wicket for a single.
17.4 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Off the outer half! Chennai won't mind how they come as long as they do! This is full and outside off, Dhoni looks to go over covers, this goes more off the outer half, over point and into the fence.
17.3 overs (1 Run) Now takes one! On the pads, this is worked through square leg for a single.
17.2 overs (6 Runs) SIX! That is a much-needed biggie! This is not a good delivery with fine leg up, On the pads, this is flicked over the fine leg fence for a maximum.
17.1 overs (1 Run) On middle, a slower one, this is worked through mid-wicket for one.
Jaydev Unadkat is back on. He has gone for 17 runs in his two overs so far and has got one wicket.
16.6 overs (1 Run) Just short and Bumrah does what he does, bowls a brilliant over at the death! A yorker, full and on off, Dhoni looks to push it towards cover, it goes off the outside edge to short third man. Dwaine Pretorius is off for a run but Dhoni is late to take off. The veteran is still pretty quick and makes it easily.
16.5 overs (1 Run) Outstanding stuff! How do you hit those? A yorker on middle, this is jammed down to long on for one.
16.4 overs (1 Run) Just another single again! Outside off, this is guided towards point for another run.
16.3 overs (1 Run) Another yorker, on middle, Dwaine Pretorius jams it out through square leg for one.
16.2 overs (0 Run) That is a beauty! A yorker, just outside off and at a good pace. Dwaine Pretorius is late in getting his bat down. He fails to jam it out. Goes inches away from the off pole.
16.1 overs (1 Run) Just the one! Singles won't harm Mumbai! Outside off, this is guided past point for one.
16.1 overs (1 Run) WIDE! Down the leg side, Dhoni looks to flick but misses. Extras will help.
15.6 overs (2 Runs) Two more! Fuller and outside off, this is driven through covers for two. 48 needed in 4.
15.5 overs (0 Run) Another dot! Short and outside off, Dwaine Pretorius leaves it alone. Can he end the over well? It has been a terrific one so far.
15.4 overs (0 Run) OUT! TAKEN! Another one bites the dust! It is the big wicket of Jadeja. Mumbai now surely on top. Sticks to bowling it wide outside off, another slower one. Jadeja looks to go over covers but probably is through a little early. It goes a lot straighter than he would have liked. The man at long off runs to his right and takes it. 50 needed in 26.
Dwaine Pretorius is the next man in.
15.4 overs (1 Run) WIDE! Another wide! The idea is right but the execution is not there for now! Well wide outside off, left alone again.
15.4 overs (1 Run) WIDE! Extras will help! Well wide outside off, left alone.
15.3 overs (0 Run) Another dot! Really good stuff! Goes slow and well wide outside off, Jadeja is early as he tries to hit it through the off side away from the body, it goes off the inner half back to the bowler.
15.2 overs (0 Run) A dot! Dots are gold! On the pads, Jadeja looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pads.
15.1 overs (1 Run) Fuller and on middle, Dhoni pushes this down to long on and gets to the other end. Gives strike to the batter who has been in for longer.
