IPL: David Warner Powers Sunrisers Hyderabad Into Final With Win Over Gujarat Lions
David Warner's magnificent 93*, combined with Bipul Sharma's 11-ball 27 at the end helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to a four-wicket win over Gujarat Lions and help them enter the final of the 2016 Indian Premier League.
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bowl against Gujarat Lions in the second qualifier at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.
Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a great start as they got rid of Eklavya Dwivedi, who was promoted to open the batting for Gujarat Lions.
Trent Boult, who was playing his first match in this year's IPL, got the important wicket of Suresh Raina.
Dinesh Karthik and Brendon McCullum shared a solid stand but Sunrisers Hyderabad kept pegging them with wickets at regular intervals.
McCullum departed for 32 and it seemed the Gujarat Lions innings would fizzle away.
However, Aaron Finch played a magnificent knock and he rebuilt the innings for Gujarat Lions.
Finch shared some important partnerships with the lower order to boost Gujarat Lions.
Finch's fifty and a cameo from Dwayne Bravo helped Gujarat Lions to 162/8. Incidentally, Sunrisers Hyderabad had notched up the same score against Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator.
Chasing 163, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost Shikhar Dhawan for 0 and the middle order failed to get momentum going.
Shivil Kaushik got two wickets and bowled accurately to increase the pressure on Gujarat Lions.
Dwayne Bravo also contributed with a couple of wickets as the asking rate mounted.
However, David Warner stood like a rock and his 31st fifty kept SRH in the hunt.
Warner got excellent support from Bipul Sharma as he smashed 27 off 11 balls to help SRH come closer to victory.
Sunrisers Hyderabad entered their maiden final of the Indian Premier League by defeating Gujarat Lions by four wickets. They will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore for the title.
