First Test, Day 2: Cheteshwar Pujara, R Ashwin deflate England
November 16, 2012 22:43
Cheteshwar Pujara is only six Tests-old while R Ashwin is into his ninth in the Indian whites but both completed milestones en route to give England a small taste of their own medicine on Day 2 of the first Test match at Ahmedabad.

He was lucky to begin with and unlucky to end with. A strong appeal by Graeme Swann was denied by the umpire off the second ball of the day while Yuvi got out to a rank long-hop by Samit Patel while approaching a well deserved century. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Cheteshwar Pujara meanwhile continued merrily in his zone and took India to a formidable total. His innings was typical workmanlike and Test-worthy. Yuvraj on the other hand was the aggressor, though eventually Pujara's strike-rate was better than Yuvi's. (Photo credit: BCCI)

If England had something to cheer about, it was Graeme Swann's five-for. It seems that Swann will be the lone ranger throughout the tour should England decide not to play Monty Panesar. (Photo credit: BCCI)

He was all over Indian during their tour of England in 2011 but till now Stuart Broad has not only disappointed in his bowling but also with his attitude. His constant appeals rather 'implores' were not in great spirit. Jonathan Trott is already under question for his spirit. (Photo credit: BCCI)

This, though, surely is the image of the day as Pujara notched up his first Test double ton. He is known to be a big innings player in the domestic circuit and if this continues in India whites, what better. (Photo credit: BCCI)

MS Dhoni was disappointing yet again with his batting form deteriorating like anything. It is not the number of runs really that frustrate but the way he is going about them that is a matter of huge concern.(Photo credit: BCCI)

Zaheer Khan appeals unsuccessfully for a lbw decision against debutant Nick Compton. Zak was as economical as one could get with his 5 overs going for six runs. He got no break-throughs though in the day. (Photo credit: BCCI)

India's spin twin was in prime form and although it took 13.3 overs to get Ashwin his and India's first wicket in the form of Nick Compton, it was worth the wait. A flurry of wickets was to ensue to end a enthralling day, at least for Indian fans. England finished at 41/3. Ashwin took two, Ojha got one. (Photo credit: BCCI)
