Australia will face the Netherlands in Match 24 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, India. The match commences at 02:00 PM IST. The Australian cricket team heads into the match following their 62-run win over Pakistan. The win saw their top batsman David Warner return to form. The left-handed batsman scored a splendid century to guide Australia to a massive score of 367/9. After a poor start to their World Cup campaign, Australia registered dominating wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan and currently occupy the fourth spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 league standings with four points from four matches.
A win over the Netherlands on Wednesday will help the five-time champions consolidate their position in the top four.
Australia would look for a massive win over the Netherlands and in the process boost their Net Run Rate which might play a crucial role in deciding which teams make it to the semi-finals.
The Aussies have never lost to the Dutch team in an ODI match and will look to maintain their 100 per cent record over them.
Openers: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh
Australia's veteran opener David Warner, after a couple of patchy innings, returned to form with a 124-ball 163 in his team's 62-run win over Pakistan in the previous match. The left-handed batter hit nine sixes and 14 boundaries as he smashed the Pakistan bowlers, including the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, to all parts of the park. The opening batsman has scored 228 runs in 4 matches at an average of 57 and with a strike rate of 109.09.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh also struck form against Pakistan scoring 108-ball 121, which included nine sixes and 10 hits to the boundary. Mitchell Marsh has scored 180 runs at an average of 45 and with a strike rate of 100 in the last four matches. With the Australian openers amassing runs, it sets the platform for the middle and the lower-middle order to come and express themselves straight away rather than worry about the run rate.
Middle order: Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschangne, Josh Inglis
Former Australian skipper Steve Smith is yet to dazzle with the bat in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. The right-handed batter has scored 72 runs at an average of 18 and with a strike rate of 71.28 in the last four matches. However, the match against the Netherlands, along with the slow Kotla track, will be a perfect platform for Smith to unleash his strokes and notch up a huge score before they face the likes of New Zealand and England in their upcoming fixtures.
Marnus Labuschangne has scored 121 runs at an average of 30.25 and with a strike rate of 64.70 in the last four matches. The right-handed batter will be expected to step up in the match against the Netherlands and hit the ground running ahead of the business end of the tournament.
Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been impressive amongst the Australian middle-order batters. The right-hander has notched up 76 runs in three matches at an average of 25.33 and with a strike rate of 105.55. Josh Inglis scored a vital 58 in the team's five-wicket win over Sri Lanka.
All-rounders: Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis
Glenn Maxwell, although has not set the World Cup on fire with his bat, has been effective with the ball on the slow tracks of India. Glenn Maxwell has bagged 3 wickets in four matches and has been crucial in stemming the opposition's runs in the middle overs. But his ability to take the match away from the opposition with the willow makes him a dangerous prospect. Australia will hope for a big show from Maxwell against the Dutch.
Marcus Stoinis, meanwhile, has scored 46 runs in three matches at an average of 23 and with a strike rate of 121.06. With the ball, Marcus Stoinis has bagged 2 wickets at an average of 31. The 34-year-old will fancy his chances to get some runs under the belt against the Dutch attack.
Spinner: Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa was the Player of the Match in Australia's five-wicket win over Sri Lanka. The leg-spinner finished with figures of 4/47. In the last four matches, Adam Zampa has bagged 9 wickets at an average of 24.77 to become Australia's leading wicket-taker so far in the competition.
Fast bowlers: Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc
Australian seamers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have both scalped 5 wickets each in the last four matches. Whereas, left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc has claimed 6 wickets so far at an average of 32.00.
The trio will have the onus of getting early breakthroughs for the Aussies if they are to humble the Netherlands by a significant margin.
Australia's predicted playing XI vs Netherlands: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (WK), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins (C), Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Starc
