Ramandeep Singh becomes highest-paid player in Hockey India League

The Uttar Pradesh franchise bagged the Amritsar forward for USD 81,000 for the second season of the Hockey India League in 2014.

Ramandeep Singh (left)Indian forward Ramandeep Singh secured the highest bid from Uttar Pradesh Wizards during a closed-bid auction on Friday for the second season of the Hockey India League (HIL) next year. The Uttar Pradesh franchise bagged the Amritsar forward for USD 81,000. The second season of Hockey India League will be played from January 23 to February 23, 2014.

Ramandeep made his debut during Asia Cup in September where India finished runners-up. Ramandeep was also awarded Rs 1 lakh by Hockey India for his performance during the tournament. Ryan Archibald of New Zealand got the second-highest bid of USD 71,000 from new franchise, Kalinga Lancers.

During the auctions, Kalinga Lancers bought 24 players. Out of 154 available players, 49 were bought by the six franchises.
