Tiger Woods had to fight hard for a one-hole victory over Australia's Robert Allenby in the second round of the Accenture Match Play Championship on Thursday.
Woods trailed by two shots after six holes but clawed his way back and sealed victory with a birdie at the 18th.
Vijay Singh, the number two seed, overcame a slow start to beat Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez 2 and 1.
It was the first time the Fijian has advanced to the third round in seven attempts.
Other winners
Other second round winners included defending champion David Toms, who beat Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal 2 and 1.
Phil Mickelson is also through to the final 16 following his 2-and-1 win over John Daly.
Japan's Shingo Katayama, seeded 43rd this week, was too consistent for an out-of-touch Colin Montgomerie. Katayama birdied the 15th hole on the way to winning 3 and 2.
In another tie, Canadian Mike Weir knocked out Bernhard Langer. (AP)
