Wie ready to return after wrist injury

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina:

Michelle Wie is downplaying her return to the US LPGA Tour, saying she spent the time rehabilitating her injured wrist by enjoying the final semester of high school instead of worrying about golf.

"I really got to enjoy and really got to hang out with my friends," Wie said on Tuesday. "I was actually the one who was calling my friends and telling them to get me out of this house."

Wie will play in the Ginn Tribute in Mount Pleasant this weekend - her first tournament since missing the cut at the men's Sony Open in January. She played that tournament with an injured right wrist, then hurt her left wrist a short time later after she fell while running.

While Wie has enjoyed spending time with her friends, she is ready to get back on the links. Wie will miss her graduation from Punahou School in Honolulu to play in the Ginn Tribute.

"As soon as my doctor said I was good to go, I was like, 'I'm playing the next tournament.' I couldn't wait," Wie said. "This is it, and I'm really excited to be here."

Wie said she expects it will take some time to get back to top form.

"I know I won't play my absolute best golf, but I'm still going to try my hardest, and if my best golf comes out, then great," Wie said. "If not, I'm just really grateful to be here, and I'm still going to try my hardest."

Annika Sorenstam, who has been recovering from a ruptured disk in her neck and a bulging disk in her back, is also planning to make her return to the tour this weekend. Sorenstam, who is hosting the Ginn Tribute, has not played since she tied for 30th in the Kraft Nabisco Championship nearly two months ago.
