Retief Goosen and Ernie Els won a four-way play-off to claim golf's World Cup for South Africa in a thrilling finale to the $3 million-dollar team event. A par four at the second extra hole was enough to edge out Denmark's Thomas Bjorn and Soren Hansen and give the South Africans the title for the fourth time. The United States, who had snatched a place in the play-off through a sensational Tiger Woods chip-in for eagle on the last green, and New Zealand were both eliminated when they failed to produce birdies at the first extra hole.
