Early starters Jarrod Moseley and Peter Lonard took advantage of mostly wind-free conditions on Thursday to shoot 7-under-par 65s and take the first round lead at the Australian PGA.
A jet-lagged Greg Norman had an up-and-down round, shooting an even-par 72 and American John Daly had 75.
Moseley shot seven birdies in a bogey-free round while Lonard birdied the 18th to pull into a tie for the lead.
Greg Turner of New Zealand, who played in Lonard's group, was a stroke behind after a 66, followed by Australians Greg Chalmers, Aaron Baddeley and Andre Stolz with 67s.
Australians Adam Le Vesconte, who was in the last group of the day, and Craig Parry and Mark Brown of New Zealand were tied for seventh with 8s. Seven golfers shot 69 and 11 more had 70. (AP)
