New Delhi :
Former US Open winner Michael Campbell of New Zealand on Monday confirmed participation in the Asian Tour's $1.25 million Indian Open golf tournament scheduled from October 8 to 11 in Gurgaon.
The 40-year-old, who held off world number one Tiger Woods to win the US Open in 2005, was the European Tour Golfer of the Year in the same year.
Campbell joins PGA Tour players, Indian star Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra of Sweden, in the Indian Open field, which would be without home stars like Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa this year.
"It is a great thrill for me to play the Hero Honda Indian Open," said Campbell.
"Golf is booming in India with great players, fantastic courses and a growing schedule of tournaments," he added.
Campbell has won more than 14 tournaments worldwide, including the Johnnie Walker Classic in Taiwan in 1999 where he got the better of defending champion Woods.
