Munich, Germany:

Jose-Filipe Lima and Raphael Jacquelin shot 7-under 65s on Thursday to tie for the lead in the rain-affected first round of the BMW International Open.

Lima had several chances to improve his score, but the Portuguese player missed six birdie putts of less than 20 feet on his final nine holes at the Munchen-Nord course.

Ernie Els (67) is one of five players two strokes off the lead, trailing Paul Broadhurst, Marc Farry and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano by one.

Jacquelin, who set a course record with a round of 62 in 2003, played after rain had softened the course.

Paul Casey (68), however, complained about the greens after the rain.

"They watered the greens during the pro-am on Wednesday when they knew it was going to rain today," said Casey, who finished tied for 10th last week at the US Open.

Niclas Fasth (67) and Nick Dougherty (68) also played at Oakmont last week.

Farry, a 47-year-old Frenchman who has struggled in recent years, qualified for the tournament as the 1996 champion. If he can finish in the top 10, he will get an automatic place at next week's French Open.

Sixty players broke par on Thursday.
