Seoul, South Korea:

Bae Sung-moon of South Korea fired a first-round 8-under-par 64 on Thursday to lead the SK Telecom Open.

Bae leads fellow local hopefuls Jun Tae-hyun and Kim Hyung-tae, who had rounds of 65. Thai golfer Panuwat Meunlek was two strokes off the pace at 66, with South Korean Kang Song-hoon.

Tournament favorite Aaron Baddeley of Australia had a round of 71 to sit seven strokes off the pace.

The 20 year-old Bae hardly put a foot wrong on a wet day at the BA Vista Country Club just outside Seoul.

"I didn't make the cut in 2005 or 2006, so I was determined to do well today," he said. "I have been practicing my swing and it feels great to get eight under on the first day."

Guaray Ghei of India, England's Yasin Ali and Unho Park of Australia are tied in sixth place at 67 with South Korea's Jung Ji-ho, Kim Wi-jung and Choi Sang-ho.
