Anirban Lahiri will shift his focus to Europe from PLAYERS championship in the United States, when he makes his first appearance at the European Tour's main event, the BMW PGA Championships this week.
The 27-year-old Lahiri, who has been playing one big event after another after breaking into the elite zone of the game, will figure at the BMW PGA Championships and Irish Open, before going back to US for another WGC at Akron, Ohio and the US Open.
Through the year Lahiri, who has maintained his position among top-50 in the world, will keep shuttling between Europe and US.
"I am looking forward to playing at BMW PGA at Wentworth. It is a superb golf course and quite easily the biggest event on the European Tour and one of the great event in world golf. I have played the practice round and Pro-Am and it is quite challenging. The ball flies much shorter here. The course also has lots of doglegs and the tee shots can be very tricky," Lahiri said.
Speaking of coming to Europe after a few months in US, Lahiri said: "As expected the weather is very English - cold, rainy and windy but of course with some brief spells of sunshine. The conditions are so completely different from what one gets in US or in Asia."
At Wentworth, Lahiri will also have the company of seasoned Jeev Milkha Singh, Shiv Kapur and SSP Chawrasia.
"After being the only Indian in US, I am looking forward to playing with Jeev Milkha Singh, Shiv Kapur and SSP Chawrasia, who I have not played with since the Asian leg of the European Tour in Malaysia and India. It was great to catch up with them," said Lahiri.
Lahiri won the Malaysian Open and Hero Indian Open in a span of three weeks to zoom to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit and also figures prominently on the European Tour's Race to Dubai in seventh place.
Lahiri will play alongside George Coetzee and Kiradech.
As for the other Indians, Jeev is paired with Paul Lawrie and Robert Karlsson, Shiv Kapur plays with Byeong Hun An and Alex Belt, while SSP Chawrasia, who got a special invite into the event, plays with Ian Ellis and Scott Drummond.
